About

Makiko Shinoda born in Japan and living in the Netherlands. She graduated from Tama art university craft department in Japan and from Design Academy Eindhoven well-being department in the Netherlands. She was born with high myopia her sight was limited to colour identification until 4 years old. She was interested in enhancing non-visual sensations because she spent her childhood afraid of losing her sight. She believes stimulating our senses is important to human lives.  How can we engage and stimulate our senses in our daily lives? How can we be thankful for what we have in everyday life? She is focusing on how materials, humans and cultures relate to products.

Her work has been exhibited in Van Abbemuseum, House of contemporary art Z33, 3331 Art chiyoda, amongst others. In 2017, she received a gold award for an educational toy from European Product Design Award.
